So autumn is here! There is freshness in the air that reminds us that winter is just around the corner! As I write this though, the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the apples are glowing tantalizingly in the tree in the garden...a perfect autumn day. The winter crone hasn’t got Her foot in the door quite yet!!
I hope you have had a glorious summer...I have had a brilliant one!
My wonderful trip to Agistri back in June now seems a very long time ago...
During July I was busy keeping up to date with orders and I painted the ‘Goddess of Fire’ image that I mentioned in my Lammas newsletter. The good news is that this is now available to purchase as a fabric wall hanging. I am so happy with the way these have come out...I have one hanging next to my altar and am really enjoying Her! I hope you will too...I think they will make beautiful Yule gifts!
There will be more to follow in the series...a Goddess for each season!
At the end of July I was at the Goddess conference. We all had a fantastic time this year, celebrating ‘Goddess of Fire’ so the energy was high, hot and glowy!!!
I had one day to pack after the Goddess conference, ready for my MAGICAL...WONDERFUL trip to India!!! I hardly know where to begin to describe it! So often when you have a longing for something for ages the reality is a disappointment. Well, it certainly was not a disappointment!!! India was everything I had ever dreamt it would be times a thousand!!! The colours, smells, tastes, patterns, heat, craziness, shockingness, beauty, spirituality were all beyond my wildest dreams!!! And I do mean Wild dreams!!! Everything is just so completely different from England and the way we live our lives! Spirituality and devotion are the accepted way of being in India for everyone...all the time...it’s just so beautiful! I LOVED IT and can't wait to go back!!! The most precious lesson that India taught me is bhakti...active devotion...to remember that life is a divine gift and that everything we do, even the most menial tasks, if done with love, is an act of devotion, a way of giving thanks for the miracle that is our life!
The Goddess Parvati-Divine Mother, seemed to be with us (my lovely cousin and I), during our time in India. She was there in nearly all the temples we visited and beautiful statues of Her were everywhere. I am being called into the realms of Hindu mythology now on a voyage of exploration and discovery. Watch out for the influences appearing in my painting!!!
The little town we stayed in, although it was in Andhra Pradesh (southern India), had several little shops owned by Tibetans. They are such gentle people and I bought a thanka of ‘White Tara’, (Buddhist scroll painting), from one young guy who owned a shop the size of a cupboard! He spent a long time telling me all the symbolism in the painting...His mentor, a monk who lives in Daramsala teaches the art of thanka painting...I am hoping to be able to make a trip there to learn this intricate skilful painting method. Although these paintings are incredibly detailed they seem to exude serenity!
Since coming home I have been busy with orders and spending some time (though not as much as I’d like) in my studio in preparation for our ‘Sacred Creatures of Albion’ exhibition coming up in November. We have a lovely group of artists working in all sorts of mediums...felt, wood, silver, clay, glass, paint and stone...it promises to be a very exciting show!!
I am practicing my new found love of kundalini yoga regularly...and am finding that it is really enriching my life. I find that it makes me feel so much more ‘awake’ and connected, bodily and spiritually. I am loving it so much that I have enrolled onto a teacher training course starting in October which I am really looking forward to.
The delivery of the third print run of ‘Luna Moon Hare’ is due any day now. I am SO thrilled about its popularity! Luna really seems to have struck a chord with everyone!
My ‘Luna Moon Hare’ calendars are selling fast too and I am getting lovely feedback about them! Do get your orders in early for Yule as I only have a limited number and would hate you to be disappointed!
And finally Yule cards!
My new designs for 2009 are now back from the printers and ready to go!! I think they look lovely...the printers have done really well in getting the colours spot on and their unusual shape makes them really appealing...I hope you will love them! I have also re-printed some designs that had sold out ...so now my full range of Yule cards is available!
May the balance of the Autumn Equinox bring you peace and harmony.
Mabon blessings
With love
Wendy
